A New “Miracle Cure” for Asthma.
Asthma is a disease that affects more than 5 million people in the UK. The sad fact is that four out of five people with suspected severe asthma are not referred to specialists for treatment that could change and even save their lives.
NICE has published a Final Evaluation Report (FAD) recommending dupilumab as an additional supportive treatment for severe asthma.
Dupilumab (also called Dupixent) will be available to patients by injection. These injections are given every few weeks, and in clinical trials they have been shown to reduce the frequency of asthma attacks in combination with standard inhalers.
Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation are calling on NICE to develop clear new guidelines so that healthcare professionals are confident about when to refer patients with possible severe asthma for the specialized care they so desperately need.
