International Smoking Cessation Day

International Smoking Cessation Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of November. In 2021, the International Smoking Cessation Day fell on November 18.
The day was established by the American Cancer Society in 1977. According to the World Health Organization: in the world, 90% of deaths from lung cancer, 75% from chronic bronchitis and 25% from coronary heart disease are caused by smoking; every ten seconds one heavy smoker dies on the planet (and this level is increasing every year).
The purpose of the International Day of Quitting Smoking is to help reduce the prevalence of tobacco addiction, involve all segments of the population and doctors of all specialties in the fight against smoking, prevent tobacco smoking and inform society about the harmful effects of tobacco on health.
